We at the Castles Bike Ride pride ourselves on running a well controlled event, however, that does not
mean we are complacent. We continually strive to improve the day for yourselves, if you think there
are ways in which we can improve things then please let us know, or likewise if you are happy with our
event then again let us know.

Below is a review of the day from
Jill the Event Organiser Well, it is now just a month since we had our 11th Castles Mountain Bike Ride - which was another great success. I know that you all enjoyed going the opposite way round the course, and the extra refreshment stop seemed to work well - Mayo's selection of cakes were much appreciated, as was the squash etc provided by Arkells. I think the bananas which Mitchell Cycles sent were also great energy boosters! I hope the jelly beans were useful - it certainly took a long time to put them in the packets - we gave up trying to mix the colours in each pack!! I never get to see what goes on during the ride, as I stay at Croft - I find it much easier to push papers around than pedals!
We have at least 8 volunteers at
Croft, and they are all kept very busy when you all arrive to
book in - I recognise lots of your names, but never get to know
which name fits which cyclist. Once you have all left at
10.00am we have a quick breather and then get ready for you all
to come back. We write out the certificates and get the kettle
on!!!
It is not long before the 10 mile
riders get back, and the 15 mile people are hot on their heels -
and then it is all go again giving out the certificates plus the
Cadbury's chocolate bar (I certainly hope they do not close
their factory at Keynsham - they provide all the chocolate for
us)
It is a very good time when you
all come back as there is time for a chat and news of how
you get on - or fall off!!! On that subject - I hope Pete
from Wanborough Vets has recovered from his nose dive.!!
By 4pm you are all safely back,
we pack up and go home - then it takes ages to remember
where all the notices etc are stored, but we get there.
Your sponsorship money has
started to come in, and the current total is £5144.90. Nick
Miller has sent a brilliant amount - and we will have to
wait and see if anyone tops it - we have until 11th August -
then Mr Mitchell will present a Mountain Bike to the rider
who raised the highest amount at that date. Wanborough Vets
will be presented with the shield for the largest team to
start - and finish - so watch the Adver as we hope both
items will be reported.
Better stop now - Neil only
asked me to do a bit to go on the Web Page, and at this rate
I will have filled it up.
One very important note before
the end - a really big thank you to Brian and Bruce who do
such an excellent job devising and marking out the course
for the ride . We also appreciate the time given by the
Marshals, who stand out in all winds and weathers in order
to 'tell you where to go' .
Macmillan are very lucky to have
such a good team of people without whom we could not hold
the ride.
Last - but definitely not least
- Thanks and much appreciation to Mitchell Cycles and
Swindon Cycle Super Shop who so kindly sponsor our ride.
A really big thank you to all of
you for coming and supporting the ride - which of course is
raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support in order that
they may continue with their vital work providing so much
support to people, and their families, who are living with
cancer.
Jill.

Jill,
An
excellent ride this year - even better than last year having
avoided those horribly rutted field margins of last year.
Please pass my thanks on to Bruce, Neil and all your colleagues,
marshalls and supporters who make it such an enjoyable morning.
Now for the really difficult bit - collecting on the promises for sponsorship!
Best wishes,
Nick
